Stratigraphic correlations between the Brabant Massif and the Stavelot, Rocroi and Givonne inliers (Belgium) and geological implications

The Caledonian basement crops out in the middle and southern part of Belgium two major tectonic units: Brabant Massif Parautochthon Stavelot-Venn, Rocroi, Givonne Serpont inliers Ardenne Allochthon. main aim this work is to achieve a chronostratigraphic correlation between inliers, from lower Cambrian Middle Ordovician. Throughout his career, Michel Vanguestaine established an informal acritarch biozonation for basement, which only linked international stratigraphic scale vigour at that time. Our first step was correlate these biozones with trilobite (Cambrian) graptolite (Ordovician) biozonations are currently well correlated chronostratigraphy. Then, compilation literature concerning each sedimentary units makes it possible assign position their constituent formations. This has permitted establishment complete chart correlations three (Stavelot-Venn, Rocroi Givonne). Geological implications discussed: formed single sedimentation basin different rheologically contrasting basements (rift shoulder). New arguments confirm presence orogeny Ardenne.
